Overview
Description A wonderful adventure between history and nature, cycling mainly on off-road trails on a gravel or a muscular – or electric! – mountain bike. We will take you to discover the Pizzo Cane, Pizzo Trigna, and Grotta Mazzamuto Nature Reserve, a true gem of Sicily. We will depart by train from Palermo and, once on our bikes, we will immerse ourselves in breathtaking landscapes. We will cycle through enchanting woods and scenic viewpoints that will leave you speechless, overlooking the coast and Monte Sant’Onofrio. We will visit the ruins of Casina Artale, an ancient hunting lodge, and venture into Grotta Mazzamuto, a place rich in history and mystery, inhabited since prehistoric times and famous for the remains of prehistoric animals.
Special notes
Our first stop will be at the ruins of Casina Artale: it was the country residence of the family of the same name and the hunting lodge of the Marquis Artale di Collalto, Baron of Colla Soprana. The estate known as Torre Artale, covering over four hundred hectares, was surrounded by a dry stone wall, a good part of which is still visible along the route, and was reserved for the hunting of the baron and his noble guests. The 'Casina' covered an area of over two thousand square meters. Our ride will continue until we reach an exceptional viewpoint, from where it will be possible to observe the coast all the way to Palermo before descending to Grotta Mazzamuto, where we will stop for a visit. The cave is also known as 'Gola del Gigante', and it is a cave of considerable size and enormous historical and paleontological interest, with a karst origin. Itinerary
Meeting with participants, fitting of bikes and transfer to Palermo train station. Bike + train transfer to San Nicola L’Arena Station (duration about 30 minutes).
