Overview
A hike for those who love nature and the sea, exploring one of the most beautiful areas of eastern Sicily. Vendicari is a reserve located south of the eastern coast of Sicily. It is a charming place for birdwatching, for numerous plant species, but also for the Sveva tower and the tuna fishery with fishermen's houses dating back to the 17th century. The Sveva tower is also known as the Vendicari castle, overlooking the chimney of the tuna fishery where, until 1943, tuna fishing was rich and flourishing. The area has also been the site of other activities in the past, such as salt harvesting, which was used for preserving fish.
